Canna edulis (1x tuber
R 85
Canna edulis, also known as Queeland arrowroot, is an erect, herbaceous perennial plant producing clumps of stems up to 3 m tall with large leaves up to 60 cm long and 18 cm wide. The stems arise from very large, thick, and tuber-like rhizomes. The plant has an appearance like a small banana.
The plant is cultivated for its edible rooting.
Canna edulis is nowhere near as aggressive and tends to stay where you plant it in a slowly spreading clump.
Canna edulis tastes surprisingly similar to mashed potatoes or water chestnuts, very delicious boiled, mashed, and smothered in butter.
Propagating by rhizome, plant them in well-drained soil, full sun. Big bag/pot or directly in the garden. Don't need more care.
Spring or summer.
